This is an event recording of the November 15, 2017 webinar with presenters Dr. Charles Conteh, Dr. Carol Phillips & Jeff Boggs. 64 participants joined this event from 20 different organizations across Niagara.

The Niagara Community Observatory (NCO) has recently developed a policy brief which sheds light on the complex, multifaceted challenges of youth unemployment confronting Niagara. The brief aims to generate discussion among public officials and citizens about appropriate measures that are specific to the needs and circumstances of Niagara.

During the webinar presenters:

  • Shared Niagara asset maps in five different industrial sectors – advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, culture and tourism, goods transportation and warehousing, and life sciences – that were created during the NCO’s Binational Prosperity Initiative to illustrate locations and clusters of firms in these sectors.
  • Presented a transit accessibility analysis for each of these sectors.
  • Reviewed educational attainment and area-of-employment numbers for the 20-24-year age cohort from the 2011 National Household Survey as a means of preparing research questions for the upcoming release of Statistics Canada 2016 figures.
  • Engaged participants in a thoughtful discussion about future research needs, to inform a second policy brief to be developed in 2018.
