Work can be a key factor in creating, maintaining or exacerbating unequal health outcomes across different societal groups; and yet it has been underused as a lever to address health inequities.

This article points to 6 factors that will affect the future of work and health inequities; and calls for development, implementation and evaluation of policy solutions that will help make the work people do, and the environments they work in, healthier and more equitable:

  • Telework
  • International migrant workers
  • Intersections between gender, age, race, ethnicity and social class
  • Precarious employment
  • Long and irregular work hours
  • Climate change
