Work can be a key factor in creating, maintaining or exacerbating unequal health outcomes across different societal groups; and yet it has been underused as a lever to address health inequities.
This article points to 6 factors that will affect the future of work and health inequities; and calls for development, implementation and evaluation of policy solutions that will help make the work people do, and the environments they work in, healthier and more equitable:
- Telework
- International migrant workers
- Intersections between gender, age, race, ethnicity and social class
- Precarious employment
- Long and irregular work hours
- Climate change
