International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is a global event held on August 31st each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. The IOAD began in Australia in 2001 and became a program of the Penington Institute, which advances health and community safety by connecting substance use research to practical action.
