The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) consulted with more than 200 health systems leaders in 2018 and 2019 to identify practical actions to systematically improve the use of health data and information (HDI). The resulting framework was developed to respond to a growing awareness among Canadian health information organizations that significant opportunities exist for realizing greater value from HDI. Examples include supporting evidence-based decision-making in areas of social and economic policy, research on population health, evaluating health system performance and improving care for Canadians, all while keeping data protected. There is an increased focus on analytics, including the application of artificial intelligence to health care.
