Software Niagara is a community-led grassroot initiative to connect the software community in the Niagara Region. It is made up of students, professionals, and entrepreneurs that volunteer their time to manage the website, moderate a forum, and organize events. They are doing their part to connect the software community and create a positive environment for learning and doing business, aiming to make Niagara a community that encourages and supports technology development and entrepreneurship.

Every month there are two events that brings the tech enthusiasts get together to teach, learn and collaborate. DevTricks is a knowledge sharing event where developers teach programming languages, frameworks, concepts or productivity tips to fellow developers. This is held on the second Monday of every month. OpenHack is an event where people get together and work in the same space, generally on something coding related, either on their own projects or working in a group. This event is held on the fourth Monday of every month.

Events are also held sporadically that give the software community a chance to share their work, the things they build, to the greater community in Niagara.

Software Niagara members are also helping out and supporting the OpenData movement taking place across the Niagara Region and will continue to offer knowledge and promote OpenData.
