As an Agency of the Provincial Government, The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) maintains and preserves over 1,300 hectares of property situated along the Niagara River corridor, from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. As part of its ongoing stewardship responsibilities, NPC not only works to protect the natural lands under its control, but also undertakes projects to restore lands through prescribed burning and natural species planting. In collaboration with area municipalities (Town of Fort Erie, City of Niagara Falls, Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake) NPC recycles trees to use as bark on its extensive 53 kilometre trail systems. The work of the Niagara Parks Commission is also highlighted in the Niagara Sustainable Action Database.
