The Family Support Network (FSN) was founded in 1996 by 5 local families who saw a need for mental health education that empowered the families of those affected by mental illness to be stronger advocates for their loved ones. All FSN facilitators are family members and trained mental health professionals.

The FSN offers free workshops that focus on helping caregivers understand mental illness, treatments and what mental health services are available in the Niagara region and to become proficient in self-care and coping skills. Workshops are a blend of education and process work.

Visit the website for a complete listing of upcoming workshops. Topics include: concurrent disorder (mental illness and substance abuse), motivational helping skills, coping skills, communicating with the ill family member, keys to wellness, community resources, suicide awareness and intervention skills, medications, non-violent crisis intervention and more.
