This white paper outlines several unique-to-Niagara opportunities that can help position Niagara as an ideal place to work and grow professionally.
The Niagara Workforce Coalition includes representatives from local education and training providers, employer-serving organizations, employment services, economic development teams, community agencies and labour market participants (employees and employers alike). The coalition’s shared objective is to build a more resilient Niagara workforce; ready to progress alongside business growth, demographic shifts, advancements in technology, and the evolving structures of work.
Goal #1: Increase inclusive participation in our local labour force and enable Decent Work (fair wages, job security and inclusive work practices).
Goal #2: Attract and retain talent to support business retention and expansion and foreign direct investment.
Opportunities to achieve the goals include:
– Niagara’s close-knit community advantage
– facilitate childcare and family support for working parents
– capacity to support workforce planning among local businesses
– engage people in the late career to post-retirement phase in mentoring younger professionals
– support immigration integration in Niagara
– support employers to work with education organization services and employment services to upskill/reskill and meet labour demand
– wraparound support facilitation to enable creative solutions for jobseekers
– support businesses to adopt new technologies to free up and redeploy workers.
