There is a direct casual relationship between poor housing conditions and negative health outcomes for children and youth. This paper outlines the major aspects of housing that impact the immediate and long-term health of children and youth. This paper also highlights the impact of poor housing conditions on the health care system as a whole. The intent of this paper is to provide health professionals with information in order to confidently endorse the Canadian Child and Youth Health and Housing Charter, as well as inspire a national dialogue amongst health professionals and organizations on housing and child and youth health in Canada.
