This November, 2023 report describes the reach and impact of the Age-Friendly Communities movement in the Niagara region of Ontario.

It summarizes and compares data from more than 1,200 responses to the 2022 Empowering Older Adults in Niagara survey of older adults 50+ in the region, with priorities in the 2015 Niagara Aging Strategy and Action Plan.

Respondents to the 2022 survey indicated what “a community for all ages”; looks like:

  • Opportunities to stay active
  • Access
  • Connected generations
  • Inclusive communities
  • Housing options and supports

They also indicated what are the “top 5 priorities for strengthening our age-friendly community”;

  • Supports to age in my own home
  • Health and wellness promotion
  • Increased recreation, leisure and learning opportunities
  • Increased housing options
  • Increased education and information about programs and services
