This report was created to support policy development in the new Niagara Official Plan, adopted by Niagara Region Council on June 23, 2022. It provides climate trend summaries for observed and projected climate data.

The climate analysis demonstrates that the Niagara Region will likely experience:
– A wetter and warmer climate
– Longer growing season
– Increased number of growing degree days by the end of the century
– More extreme precipitation and temperature events, which may impose threats to the health of communities, natural systems, infrastructure, agriculture, economy and services within the region

The report offers a list of next steps and recommendations that the Niagara Region government may wish to consider as part of future projects to advance climate change initiatives.
