Bridging academic and community health innovations, the Brock-Niagara Centre for Health and Well-Being is dedicated to enhancing quality of life among individuals with chronic disease by focusing on disease management and the related social and health complications. To accomplish this mission, the Centre is based on teaching and learning, research and innovation, and evidence-based services all within an intersecting knowledge-exchange model between the university and community. Through transdisciplinary educational programs, the Centre provides applied experiences for students providing unique training for their development as highly qualified personnel. By focusing on “upstream” health promotion and prevention strategies, new discoveries will reduce “downstream” acute healthcare costs (i.e., hospitals, doctors and pharmaceuticals). Thus, the true transdisciplinary nature of the Centre will provide the structure and resources to encourage the intersection of expertise among Brock researchers and community leaders in fostering mutual learning and innovation leading to evidence-based services and solutions for chronic disease management at the local, provincial and national level.
