In June 2017, the Liberal Government of Ontario introduced legislation to create #decentwork and #goodjobs through a plan for Fair Workplaces and Better Jobs. This plan recommends raising the minimum wage to $15, ensuring part-time workers are paid the same hourly wage as full-time workers, introducing paid sick days for every worker and stepping up enforcement of employment laws.

Some employers across Ontario expressed their negative opinions about the proposed changes, stating that this plan for Fair Workplaces and Better Jobs would threaten their bottom line, leading them to slash jobs, raise prices or shut down altogether.

The goal of this conference is to provide #smartemployers – who vary in scope and size – an opportunity to share how providing #decentwork and #goodjobs has allowed them to surpass their competition, and ultimately this will #buildabettereconomy. Their stories demonstrate that supporting a good jobs strategy can result in greater productivity and profitability for businesses, improved job and income security for workers, and decreased inequality and injustice for all of society.

This conference is hosted by Ryerson University.
