Local Food Week was established under the Local Food Act, 2013, with input from hundreds of food and farming champions including Sustain Ontario. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Local Food Act, Bill 36, was passed to support resilient local food economies and systems in Ontario, increase awareness of local food and develop new markets for local food.
