The literature suggests that use of the internet can help promote successful aging through increased social inclusion and access to information and services. Yet, questions remain as to the realities and perspectives among older adults regarding their relationship with the internet, and in what ways internet use affects their capacity to stay socially connected as they age.

In this webinar, Melina Elliott (Research Coordinator, University of Manitoba) will talk about her research into the advantages and disadvantages internet use provides older adults; the role the internet plays in their lives; the effect (if any) the technologizing of services has on the well-being of older adults; and in what ways internet use affects their level of social inclusion.

Ms. Elliott’s research explores the lived experience of older adults and the internet, offering a better understanding of how the internet impacts their lives, and to what extent it is necessary to focus policy efforts on promoting the use of the internet among older adults as a means to bridge the digital divide.
