Welcome to NCNW’s inaugural event, Blockers & Attackers: Indigenous Women in Sports Leadership.
This lunch webinar will take place on Saturday, September 19th from 11AM-1PM. The theme of the luncheon is Indigenous Women in Sports Leadership. We have two outstanding competitive Indigenous female athletes here to share their experiences and success stories. Our featured speaker is Waneek Horn-Miller, the first-ever Mohawk woman from Canada to compete in the Olympic games. She also won a gold medal for Canada’s water polo team among many other outstanding accomplishments. Waneek is a motivational speaker and fights against racism and unfair treatment of Indigenous athletes. Additionally, our youth guest speaker is Jessica Ghosen, a roller derby team member of the Queen City Roller Derby located in Buffalo, New York. Jessica continues to compete and win nationally on an all-star team named Lake Effect Furies. Full of passion, she has a mission to represent Indigenous women who face challenges and risks in their day-to-day lives.
